JOB PURPOSE. As part of the Database administration team the purpose of the role is to respond and resolve database related incidents, requests, alerts and escalations. It requires the applicant to apply existing policies and procedures pertaining to the management, security, maintenance, and interaction of data thus ensuring the quality, integrity and security of Fexco Payments & FX applications. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES. Performance monitoring and tuning of database queries. Capacity planning and monitoring for database server resources. Security - monitor and administer database security i.e. adding and removing users, administering quotas, auditing, and checking for security problems. Encrypt sensitive data using Oracle encryption. Responsible for securing the servers and networks from unauthorized usage and in compliance with PCI and audit requirements. Data analysis - analysis of the data stored in the database and to make recommendations relating to performance and efficiency of that data storage e.g. more effective use of indexes or other database specific features. Database design (preliminary) - review the Developer proposed database designs to eliminate many problems that might occur due to poor design particularly wrt performance considerations. Responsible for the administration of existing enterprise databases and the analysis, design and creation of new databases. Data modelling, database optimization, understanding and implementation of schemas, and the ability to interpret and write complex SQL queries. Proactively monitor systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints. Establish standards and best practices for SQL. Interact with and coach Developers & Support Engineers in SQL scripting. Performing Backups of the database using RMAN scripting. Responsibility for documenting the configuration of the system. Troubleshooting any reported problems. 2nd Line support to Global support. Monitoring and alerting database outages / failures. Work with software development function on database development improvements and schema reviews. Support of all application software both in production and QA. SQL/PLSQL and Database Reporting Support. Support of Business Intelligence suite, maintaining the automated dump of data to the BI database. QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Degree or equivalent - candidates with sufficient IT or operational experience in the areas stated above will also be considered. Database administration qualification (a plus but not essential. 5 - 10+ years Oracle database administration experience (must have knowledge of 11G / 12C. SQL programming experience. Unix experience (Solaris experience a plus but not essential.) Shell Scripting. PLSQL experience (a plus but not essential. Data Guard, HSM Encryption, RAC, TDE and Data Vault would be an advantage. Middleware Experience- Tomcat, Apache, Java and Python (a plus but not essential. COMPETENCIES REQUIRED. Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to communicate technical issues with non-technical people with strong troubleshooting skills. Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail. Good team player with ability to work using own initiative. Ability to prioritise and remain focused in a busy and dynamic environment. Willingness to continuously learn and evolve.
